How to Share Documents in Google Docs

Here’s our step-by-step guide on how to share documents in google docs.

Step 1

First, open the Google Docs document you want to share.

Step 2

Click the Share button on the top-right corner of the page.

Step 3

You should now see a pop-up box that shows the possible sharing and access options for your document.

Step 4

The first method of sharing is by providing an email. You can choose for the person to be either a Viewer, Commenter, or Editor. Viewers will only be able to read the given document while Commenters can leave comments on the shared documents. Editors will have the ability to modify the document.

When sharing a document through email, you can choose to notify the person via email that a document has been shared to them. You can also insert a custom message to display.

Step 5

Next, we can adjust the general access of the current document.

With the option “Anyone with the link”, any user can access the file as long as they have the right URL. Similar with sharing through email, you can choose the role the public will have when they access the link.

If we want to keep the access within a select number of accounts, we can select the Restricted option for general access.

Step 6

Click on Copy Link to copy the URL of the current document in your clipboard.

Step 7

We can also share Google Docs files through Google Drive by hovering over the desired file and clicking the Share icon.

This allows us to share documents without having to open the document itself
