When working with documents, sometimes you may need to remove an existing header from the document. This can be helpful if you don’t want the header to be printed or if the header is taking up too much space.

In other cases, you may want to remove a header on a specific page, such as the first page of a document. We can also specify certain sections of our document to have a blank header by adding multiple section breaks in our document.

Removing the header in Google Docs is a simple process, and can be done with just a few clicks. In this guide, we will show you how to remove the header from your Google Docs. We will also explain how to start adding a header on a different first page as well as removing a header by adding a section break.

How To Delete Header In Google Docs

Here’s our step-by-step guide on how to delete headers in Google Docs.

Step 1

First, open the document that contains the header you want to remove.

In the example above, we have a sample document with a header that says “2023 REPORT”.

Step 2

Double-click on the header text to focus on the header of the current page.

Step 3

Click on Options and select Remove header.

Step 4

Selecting this option will remove all headers from every page of that document.

Alternatively, you may want to remove a header from just the first page. To do this, click on Options and select Header format.

Check the option Different first page and click Apply.

The header should now be removed from the first page/

However, it should still remain in the remaining pages in the document.

We can also add a section break to our document. Adding a section break allows you to have different headers and footers in different sections of a document. Each section can have its own distinct header and footer content. In this case, we can add a section break to remove headers in a specific part of our document.

To add a section break to the current page, click on Insert > Break > Section break (next page).

Step 9

Uncheck the Link to previous option to create a unique header for the new section. This will allow us to leave our header blank for this new section of our document.
