When working on a Google Sheets spreadsheet, you may be required to remove all borders and gridlines. This can either be for aesthetic reasons or because you want to change the layout and formatting of the entire spreadsheet.
Fortunately, Google Sheets offers a few ways to quickly remove cell lines. The first major way we can remove lines is by deselecting the Gridlines feature. We can also remove borders that have been set by cell formatting options.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to remove cell lines in Google Sheets. We’ll explain how to remove border formatting using the ‘Clear Borders’ option.
How to Toggle Gridlines in Google Sheets
Here’s how to toggle gridlines in Google Sheets.
Step 1
First, head to the sheet you want to remove gridlines from.
Afterward, click on the View option found in the menu bar.

Step 2
Click on Show > Gridlines. This action should unselect the Gridlines option.

Step 3
Gridlines should now be removed for the current sheet.

Do note, however, that any borders added through cell formatting will still remain in the sheet.
Step 4
If you want to remove cell borders, we must use Google Sheets’ cell formatting options.
Select the entire range that includes formatted cell borders.

Step 5
In the toolbar, click on the Borders icon to reveal additional options. Select the Clear borders option on the bottom right of the expanded menu.

Step 6
The cell borders should now be removed from the selected range.
