In this tutorial, you will learn how to print google sheets with lines.
Printing spreadsheets can be challenging. An arbitrarily large set of data has to be broken down into page-sized pieces, and often much of the color and formatting is lost. Gridlines can help clarify information by showing the boundary between rows and columns on a printed document, but what if they don’t appear in the printout, or aren’t displayed in the spreadsheet at all? While Google Sheets can make it frustrating to figure out how to print with gridlines in certain circumstances, it’s actually relatively straightforward once you understand what’s going on. Read on to learn how to address the two most common issues with gridlines not printing.
Gridlines Displayed in Spreadsheet Won’t Print
If the gridlines are displayed in your spreadsheet but aren’t printing, this means gridline printing is turned off in the print settings. Here’s how to turn it on:
Open the File menu and choose Print to access the Print Settings screen
In the sidebar that appears, click on the Formatting section to expand it
Check the box for Show Gridlines
Gridlines will appear in the print preview in the middle of the screen
Proceed with printing to print the gridlines as they display in the preview
Gridlines Not Displaying in Spreadsheet Won’t Print
If the gridlines aren’t displaying in the spreadsheet itself, you might think you can still use the above instructions to show them when printing, but unfortunately that won’t work. Even if you turn on the Show Gridlines print settings option, gridlines won’t print if they aren’t visible in the spreadsheet. Here’s how to make gridlines visible in a spreadsheet so you can print them:
Make sure the sheet you want to print with gridlines is active. You will have to turn on gridline visibility individually for each sheet you want to print with gridlines.
Open the View menu and hover over Show. A menu of items to show or hide will appear, with visible items marked by checkmarks. Click on the Gridlines option
The gridlines will display in the active sheet
Repeat Steps 1-2 above as needed for all tabs you wish to print with gridlines
Once the gridlines are all displaying in the spreadsheet, follow the steps in the first section of this tutorial to print the displayed gridlines
When you’re done, you can hide the gridlines again. Just follow Steps 1-4 again to toggle the gridline visibility off
