How To Create Reports From Google Sheets
Quick Navigation
Creating reports from data in Google Sheets is a great way to share information with others. Reports are vital when you want to analyze trends, identify areas of improvement, or simply provide an overview of certain metrics in your dataset.
Google Sheets provides several features that help you create reports. First, you should know about pivot tables. These tables enable you to filter and aggregate your data exactly how you want to without making changes to the underlying data.
Next, users should take advantage of Google Sheets charts. Charts are a powerful tool that allows you to display information in a clear and concise way.
In this guide, we will show you how to create reports from Google Sheets using pivot tables and charts.
How To Use a Pivot Table and Charts in Google Sheets to Find Trends in Your Data.
Here’s how to use a pivot table and charts in Google Sheets to find trends and insights from your spreadsheet data.
Step 1
Select the range you want to create a report from.

In this example, we want to make a sales report from a dataset of electronics product sales during the month of January.
Step 2
In the Insert menu, select the Pivot table option.

Step 3
Users have the option to add the pivot table in a new sheet or in an existing range. Select your preferred option and click Create.

Step 4
Users should now have access to the Pivot table editor.

Users can specify which fields to use as rows, columns, or summary values. In this example, we want each row to be a specific category. Each row will have a corresponding sum of all sales within that category.
Step 5
The pivot table will reflect in real-time the options you’ve placed in the editor.

In the pivot table above, we were able to breakdown the sales made by the product category.
Step 6
Next, select the pivot table. Click Insert > Chart to add a new chart into the spreadsheet.

Step 7
Users can use the Chart editor to modify the way the chart visualizes the selected pivot table data.

In the example above, we represented our pivot table breakdown as a pie chart.
We can continue adding more charts to create a comprehensive report of different fields and metrics from our dataset.
