How to Create a Gauge Chart in Google Sheets

Gauge charts employ needles to display information as a reading on a dial and are referred to as dial charts or speedometer charts.

The value of each needle on a gauge chart is compared to the colored data range or chart axis. This chart is frequently used in executive dashboard reports to display important business metrics.

Once you are ready, we can get started by using real-life scenarios to help you understand how to create a gauge chart in Google Sheets.

Creating a Gauge Chart

Before we begin we will need a group of data to be used to create a gauge chart.

Step 1 – Group your data

Make sure your group of data is displayed in a clean and tidy manner. This will help us to create a gauge chart easily.

Step 2 – Select data

Select the entire data cell, choose Insert, and select Chart.

Step 3 – Insert chart

By default, Google Sheet will use the selected group of data to generate a pie chart.

You can easily change it to a Gauge chart by choosing it at the Chart type under the Chart Editor.

Step 4 – Customize your gauge chart

Now, you can customize the gauge chart to your preference. We will change the chart title to ‘Simulated Sales’ for a better representation of the gauge chart.

Also, to emphasize the chart title, we will change the text color to black, bold it, and also align it to the center.

Step 5 – Congratulations, you are now the proud owner of a gauge chart

Once you are done editing and customizing the gauge chart, it will look something like this.

That’s all there is to it. You are welcome to copy the example spreadsheet below to see how it is done. The most crucial lesson is to enjoy yourself while doing it.
