Setting Up January

First we’ll make a spreadsheet tab for January, before copying it for the other months. Here’s how:

Step 1

Type the month and year in cell A1. Eg. “January 2022”. Notice when you highlight this cell, the value in the formula bar will be the date 1/1/22

Step 2

Add the days of the week in the next row

Step 2

Next, we’ll add the days of the month in the following row. The quick way to do this is to use formulas. Enter the following formula under Monday in the first column: “=EOMONTH(A1, -1) – WEEKDAY(A1, 3)+1”. This formula uses the date value in cell A1 to calculate the correct date for this cell. In this case, 27, because January 1, 2022 was a Saturday

Step 3

To calculate the dates for the rest of the week, type the following formula under Tuesday, then drag it across the row to populate the dates: “=A3+1

Step 4

Next, decide how many rows you want to leave to enter content info for each date. We’ll use six for this example, but you can adjust this to your needs, or even insert more rows later. Leave six blank rows then type the following formula in the Monday column to calculate the next row of dates: “=ARRAYFORMULA(3:3+7)

Step 5

Repeat Step 4 for all weeks in the month, each time updating the row reference 3:3 to point to the previous week

Step 6

Customize your content calendar by adjusting the column width, font and color as desired

Step 7

Your January content calendar is now ready to use. Enter the information for each pieces of content in the available fields for the appropriate date

February to December

Once you’ve set up the first month, setting up additional month tabs is easy

Step 1

Right-click on the January tab and choose Duplicate

Step 2

Right-click on the duplicate tab, choose Rename, and rename it for February

Step 3

Edit the date in cell A1 to be the first of February

Step 4

All the calendar dates should update accordingly

Step 5

Repeat the above steps for each month of the year
