In this tutorial, you will learn how to comment on google sheets.
One of the many features that makes Google Sheets an excellent tool for collaboration is the ability to add comments to cells. In addition to simply adding comments, users can tag collaborators in comments, reply to comments, and even assign tasks and action items. Read on to learn more about how to get the most out of this feature.
Comments are added to individual cells. Each cell can have only one comment thread, but a comment thread can have many different comments in it as replies to the original comment. To add a comment, follow these steps:
Right-click on the cell you want to comment on and choose Comment
Type your comment in comment field that appears
To start tagging another user, type the @ sign and then begin typing that person’s name or email address. A list of matching people will appear. Click on one to tag them.
A note will appear stating that the tag will add the person to the discussion and send them an email notification. Don’t forget to click the green Comment button to finalize the comment and send the email.
Note that you can also assign the task to that person by clicking on the checkbox before saving the comment by clicking on Assign
Interacting with Existing Comments
You can interact with comments already in a spreadsheet by replying to them, marking them complete or editing or deleting them. Here’s how:
Cells with comments in them have a yellow triangle indicator in the upper-right corner of the cell. Hover over the cell and the comment will be revealed
Mark a comment completed by checking on the checkmark icon. The comment will then disappear
To edit or delete a comment, click on the three-dot menu icon and select edit or delete. You can also choose to share a direct link to this comment if you would like
To reply to the comment, click on the comment and a text field will appear to type your reply. Click the Reply button to save the reply
The reply will appear in the same popup below the original comment
To view all comments in a Google Sheet, click the comment history button in the upper-right of the screen. The comments sidebar will appear
