How To Rename a Series in Google Sheets Chart

Here’s how to rename a series in a Google Sheets chart.

Step 1

First, select the Google Sheets chart you want to edit.

In this example, we have a bar chart that tracks the monthly product sales of three different items. Our goal is to add a legend to the chart and later modify the names of each series.

Step 2

After selecting the chart, you may click on the Customize tab in the Chart editor. Click on the Legend option to expand the section.

Step 3

Choose a position from the drop-down list. The legend will automatically appear in the desired position.

Step 4

In our example, we have three products :Product A, Product B, and Product C. To change these values, double-click on the legend text.

The legend text should now change into a textbox. Remove the existing text and add your desired series name. Hit the Enter key to apply the new series name.

Step 5

Proceed to perform the previous step on the remaining legend items.
