Step 1

First, open the Insert menu and look for the Page numbers option. Under Page numbers, users will have access to four different options.

Users have the option to place the page number on either the header or footer of each page. For each of these options, you can choose whether the page number starts on the first or second page. This option is useful for documents with a title page that does not require a page number.

Step 2

After clicking on an option, Google Docs will automatically place the numbers in either the header or footer. Clicking on any of these numbers will show the Header options button.

Clicking on the Options button will reveal a dropdown menu. You may click on the Page numbers option to access more settings for the page numbers.

In the Page numbers pop-up menu, you can switch between using the header or footer and whether to skip the first page.
