How to Insert Line Numbers in Google Docs
Here’s our step-by-step guide on how to insert line numbers in Google Docs.
Step 1
Open the document where you want to add line numbers.

Select the text that you want to add line numbers to.

Click on the numbered list icon in the toolbar.
Each line in the selection will now be preceded by a number, sorted in increasing order.

We can also add line numbers manually using a table. First, add a table using Insert > Table. Create a table with two columns and enough rows to hold all the lines you want to enumerate. In this example, we’ll create a table for 10 lines.
You should now have an empty table in your document. Use your cursor to shrink the length of the leftmost column, where we will put our line numbers.
Step 5
Fill out the first column with the line numbers and the second column with the actual text.
Right-click on the table and click on Table properties.
Under the Color section, set the table border to 0pt width.
This will ensure that our table will have no outline. Your table should now appear as if each line in our document is numbered.
